Prof. Dra. Viviani Nardini Takahashi
Viviani Nardini Takahashi began her academic journey in the Bachelor’s Program in Chemistry with Technological Attributes at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP) at the University of São Paulo (USP). From her first year as an undergraduate in 2005, she conducted research under the guidance of Professor Gil Valdo José da Silva (in memoriam), continuing this work until the completion of her degree. For her master’s, she pursued further studies in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with the project “Studies on the Synthesis of Furanoheliangolides.”
In 2010, midway through her master’s program, Viviani began working as a laboratory technician at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto (FCFRP), where she spent 14 years in diverse fields such as neuroimmunology, toxicological analysis, food science and nutrition, clinical biochemistry, and immunology. For five of those years, she was responsible for
operating a high-resolution mass spectrometer coupled to a liquid chromatograph in a multi-user center. Alongside this role, she completed her Ph.D. under Prof. Gil’s supervision, focusing on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) with a project titled “Determination of Enantiomeric Excess and Absolute Configuration of Chiral Amines.” Through this work, she discovered her passion for NMR, structural elucidation, stereochemistry, and theoretical computational calculations in NMR.
In 2019, she completed an internship at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona, Spain, where she gained expertise in processing metabolomics spectra using NMR. That same year, she also worked as a substitute professor in Organic Chemistry at the São Paulo State University (UNESP).
In 2020, during the pandemic, Viviani took a pause from her career to receive life’s most important title: mother.
Now, in 2024, Vivi, as she prefers to be called, has returned to her roots, joining the LSO faculty as an Doctor Professor, proving the adage that “a good child always returns home.” She brings her experience and enthusiasm to advance research in NMR.
In her free time, Vivi enjoys being with her family, especially her daughter, visiting shopping malls, and indulging in sweet treats!
